Sorry for the interruption

03 Sep

I’ve been working all day – literally – on upgrading WordPress. Sorry for the spotty connectivity. My version was so old, I had to do three intermediate upgrades to make it work. Ugh.

Here’s an FO from July – My cherry CeCe, knit in Cascade Sierra. It’s been just the thing for quick trips to the grocery(I get cold in the dairy aisle, the meat aisle, and everywhere else they have open cold cases wasting energy.)

Still, I’m having trouble with images – and this editor is not what I had before! Much harder to use. I’ll have to see what I can do about that.

FO – and pictures

26 Feb

Patti front detailI wore my new Patti cardigan yesterday, and was surprised that several people noticed and liked it. (Coworkers, the nurse at my gyn office, a waitress at lunch.) Weird – my handknits don’t usually get that much feedback. Though usually it’s a lace shawl, which is a different animal altogether. People don’t comment on shawls, either because they don’t wear them, or because they are so … unusual.
I’m happy overall with how Patti came out, though if I make it again, I’ll make a few changes:

  • knit longer below the pleats, and maybe an smidge more above. (Or maybe just get plastic surgery, or have the law of gravity reversed.)
  • knit the sleeves either longer, or shorter; they’re too short to be long sleeves, but too long to be short sleeves.
  • hmm – just the two things. Not bad.

Patti back detailI found the perfect buttons on an ancient cotton cardigan. It originally had 5 buttons, but was so old and tired that only three were left. I used EZ’s one-row buttonhole (from A Knitters Almanac) – how clever! Without the little flap that my own unvented ones always have. I also finally grokked why you should always make them (buttonholes) horizontal. The alpaca cardi I knit a few years ago, that would never stay buttoned? It had vertical slits instead of horizontal – too much elasticity, in the wrong place.

Now on the needles: Twist (Ravelry link), by Bonne Marie Burns. A simple aran cardigan, in Mission Falls 1824 wool (the wool of Saturday’s yarn crawl). I thought I’d make Ariann first, but then realized this yarn would be better for Twist.

I’ve got some Cascade 220 in a cart online somewhere, but I’m not sure what color I want yet. Lisa made hers in black, which looks so great (and Lisa’s is the entire reason why I want to make it! The model shots look kinda sloppy). But it’s February, and I need color. Raspberry, or fire engine red, or maybe pumpkin. Another reason why most people don’t mention my knitted garments: their stunningly inappropriate colors. My entire wardrobe is black, white, denim or khaki.

Tonight, I’m too tired to pick colors. Besides, I’ve only got the back (almost) done. I won’t be ready for Ariann for at least a couple weeks.

Bewitching!

09 Feb

tatiana-left.jpgAnd the winner was … Tatiana’s Revenge. I couldn’t resist the bright carnival colors, especially after eight days with no sunshine! (Click to biggen the happy colors.) This pattern is so engaging, simple to memorize, yet intriguing … I finished it last night.  I just had to finish the large cable’s meander across the instep. Sock #2 is the mirror of this one, which will look even cooler than just-the-one.
No debate about the second sock here: The mate to this one is already almost down to the heel.  I’ve never tried bramble lace; it’s fun and fast. I’m working with two circs, but not in the usual way, I think. Part way between magic loop and two circs, I guess. I only have 2.5mm needles in 24″ length, which isn’t quite big enough for magic loop, so I’m using the second needle too. It’s odd, but it’s working.
I’ll be knitting the next Twisted Flower with a larger needle; this one fits, but looks a bit stretched around the ankle, and I’m afraid any shrinking of the yarn will render it unwearable. If there’s an appreciable difference by the time I’m part way down the ankle, I’ll rip & reknit sock #1.

Whoops

13 Jan

I missed blogging again last week. We’re moving from weekly to seldom, it appears.

I do have an FO to show.endpaper.jpg Eunny’s Endpaper Mitts. But can you see the problem with these? I started (and finished) the first one when Lisa was here, back in early November. When I cast on the 2nd, I couldn’t find the first – no problem, I though. Not exactly … but I do like how they look, so I’m keeping them as-is.

Thank goodness for variety. I’m running with the small projects lately. Cable and Lace Socks are on the needles, in CTH “Loden” – a solid olive green. Brianna’s hat is finished and blocked, but I have to get to JoAnn’s for the pink fleece lining. Patty is still on the needles, but I mostly don’t have the gumption to pick it up.
